Ali Wong, the renowned actor and comedian, revealed during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she managed to persuade Netflix to finance her 2019 rom-com, Always Be My Maybe, just so she could have the opportunity to kiss her co-stars, Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves.
Wong, who is currently in high demand due to her roles in hit comedies like Beef, Love, Victor, Are You There, Chelsea?, and Inside Amy Schumer, shared her excitement about working with Reeves and Kim on the film.
“I kiss a lot of men,” Wong exclaimed. “It’s like, who wrote this movie, right? I kiss a lot of sexy men. I kiss Daniel Dae Kim. I kiss Keanu Reeves. I basically made Netflix spend all this money on a movie just so I could kiss Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves.”
Wong, who portrayed celebrity chef Sasha Tran in the rom-com, falls in love with her childhood friend Marcus, played by Randall Park, who also co-wrote the film with Wong. She credited her chemistry with Reeves and Kim to her long-term relationship with her husband, Justin Hakuta, whom she had been with for 10 years at the time of filming.
“I’ve been with the same dude for 10 years. I would have chemistry with a turtle at this point,” Wong quipped.
The couple, who share two daughters, unfortunately split up in 2022. However, Wong continues to make waves in the entertainment industry with her latest project, Beef, a comedy-drama in which she stars alongside Steven Yeun. The show follows the story of two strangers living in Los Angeles who become entangled in a prolonged feud after a minor road rage incident.
According to a synopsis from Netflix fan platform Tudum, the 10-episode series delves into the lives of the characters, Danny and Amy, as their obsession with revenge consumes not only them but also their loved ones. Since its release on April 6th, Beef has gained critical acclaim and has quickly risen on the Netflix trending chart, earning a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wong’s ability to captivate audiences with her talent and humor has made her a sought-after star in the entertainment industry.
Her roles in hit projects like Always Be My Maybe and Beef continue to showcase her versatility and comedic prowess, making her a beloved figure among fans.
