Actress Amanda Bynes has been placed on a psychiatric hold after she was found walking with no clothes on, in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning.
An eyewitness reported that Bynes flagged down a car and told the driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode.
Amanda then called 911 herself.
Law enforcement sources report that Bynes was taken to a nearby police station, where a mental health team evaluated her and decided that she needed to be placed on a 5150 psych hold.
According to sources, Bynes did not appear to have been physically harmed during the ordeal.
However, given the area where she was found, things could have been much worse.
Amanda is currently hospitalized and is expected to receive care for several days.
While a psychiatric hold typically lasts for 72 hours, it can be extended.
It is worth noting that this incident occurred almost exactly one year after the termination of Amanda’s 9-year conservatorship.
Her mother had been her conservator since 2013, when Amanda was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Following a series of bizarre incidents, including one in which she set her neighbor’s driveway on fire, Amanda was sent to a psychiatric ward for treatment.
Interestingly, Amanda had been scheduled to attend 90s Con in Connecticut over the weekend, but had to cancel due to illness.
Since the conservatorship ended, Amanda had been doing well, making this recent incident particularly concerning.
It remains to be seen whether her parents or legal team will intervene.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health care and support, particularly for those struggling with bipolar disorder or other mental health issues.
It is crucial that we prioritize mental health care and support for all individuals in need.
