In her latest Netflix special, “Amy Schumer: Emergency Contact,” the fearless comedian Amy Schumer didn’t hold back as she delivered a brutal joke about Alec Baldwin’s involvement in the Rust shooting incident.
Premiering on Netflix earlier this week, the hour-long special showcases Schumer’s unfiltered and candid approach to various subjects, including personal experiences with lasering her face, postpartum sex, a baby-naming disaster, and even chewable Viagra. The comedian demonstrates her range by delving into both light-hearted and controversial topics.
During a segment of the special, Schumer delves into the tragic and fatal shooting on the set of Rust in October 2021, involving Alec Baldwin.
The incident occurred when Baldwin, holding a gun for the film, accidentally discharged it, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza.
Baldwin faced two involuntary manslaughter charges and was accused by authorities of multiple instances of extremely reckless behavior. However, in April, all criminal charges against him were dropped. In her role as one of the Oscar hosts, Schumer daringly joked, “Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun.” She humorously expressed that she wasn’t allowed to say such things but encouraged the audience to physically express their disagreement, referencing the infamous moment when Will Smith walked onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock.
Schumer didn’t stop there in her roast of the Baldwin family. She also targeted Hilaria Baldwin, who is married to Alec Baldwin, over allegations surrounding her claimed Spanish roots. Hilaria, a yoga instructor, has faced accusations of impersonating a Spanish person, with the initial call-out happening on Twitter two years ago.
During her comedy routine, Schumer asked the audience if they knew who Hilaria was, pronouncing her name in a Spanish accent. She then mimicked the alleged fake accent, recalling a moment years ago when she met Hilaria backstage at Saturday Night Live. Schumer claimed that Hilaria introduced herself with a “very thick Spanish accent,” saying, “I’m Hilaria, from España.”
Taking a tongue-in-cheek approach, Schumer playfully referenced the Baldwin family’s seemingly Spanish-sounding names. She humorously remarked that they had a large number of children and gave them names like Jamón, Croqueta, and Flamenco. However, Schumer emphasized that Hilaria, originally from Boston, is not Spanish, and her parents are not from Spain. She quipped that no one in her life has any Spanish connection.
While Schumer clarified that she wasn’t trying to bully a sociopath, she suggested that Hilaria’s “Spanish” accent might have developed after visiting Spain. Sharing her own positive experience in Spain, Schumer added humorously, “But Hillary from Boston, f***ing LOOOVED it.”
Concluding her segment on the Baldwins, Schumer stated, “My point is that all evidence points to this woman, since she met her husband, has straight up pretended to be from Spain. And her husband shot someone. My point is, neither of them gives a f*** find someone who can stand you.”
“Amy Schumer: Emergency Contact” is now available to stream on Netflix, showcasing Schumer’s unapologetic and boundary-pushing comedy style.
