Archie Battersbee’s Family Demand an Inquiry Because ‘No Parent Must Go Through This Again’

Archie Battersbee’s family have demanded an inquiry following his death, adding that no parent should ‘go through this again’.

The 12-year-old sadly passed away on Saturday morning at the Royal London Hospital.

His mum had found him in unconscious at home in Southend, Essex. Hollie Dance found her son in April and he had been in a deep coma ever since.

Archie had been at the centre of a legal battle over the withdrawal of his medical treatment.

A family statement released by Christian Concern said that the family felt like they had been ‘backed into a corner by the system, stripped of all our rights’.

They added:

‘We want something good to come out of this tragedy and the horrendous experience we have been put through by the system,’

‘No parent or family must go through this again. We have been forced to fight a relentless legal battle by the Hospital Trust while faced with an unimaginable tragedy.

‘We were backed into a corner by the system, stripped of all our rights, and have had to fight for Archie’s real “best interests” and right to live with everything stacked against us.

‘This has now happened too often to parents who do not want their critically ill children to have life-support removed.’
