Brittney Griner Only Had 0.7 Grams of THC when Detained by Russian Police

Brittney Griner only had 0.7 grams of THC in her system when she was detained by Russian police.

The professional basketball player was arrested while at a Russian airport in February after police allegedly discovered cannabis oil cartridges in her case. This has now been confirmed to have been less than a gram of THC.

A preliminary hearing was held on 27 June and the athletes detention was prolonged for another six months – due to end 20 December.

The 31-year-old could potentially face 10 years in prison, if she were to be convicted of large-scale drug transportation.

Elizabeth Rood, the Chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy said:

“I did have the opportunity to speak with Ms. Griner in the courtroom,”

“She is doing as well as can be expected in these difficult circumstances and asked me to convey that she is in good spirits and is keeping up the faith.”

“The Russian Federation has wrongfully detained Ms. Griner,”

“the U.S. government at the very highest levels is working very hard to bring Ms. Griner as well as all wrongfully detained U.S. citizens safely home.”
