Despite his youthful appearance, the renowned Thor actor will be celebrating a major birthday this year – 40.
Reflecting on his career and life, Hemsworth has recently been confronted with the sobering realization that he won’t be here indefinitely. The passing of his grandfather, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, has further emphasized this sentiment.
In his documentary titled “Limitless,” the beloved MCU star discovered that he carries a gene that increases his likelihood of developing the disease in the future by eight to ten times. During the funeral service, as he listened to everyone’s memories of his grandfather, Hemsworth contemplated how he would like to be remembered.
In an interview with GQ, Hemsworth shared, “My uncle specifically said, ‘He’s remembered as a good bloke.’ And if he knew, or if someone told him that’s how he would be remembered, how incredibly proud he would feel.” These words sparked introspection about his own life, with the actor expressing that it’s not about his career accomplishments, but rather being remembered as a good and kind person who made a valuable contribution.
He explained, “I certainly don’t think about the films I’m going to leave behind and how people are going to remember me in that sense. I hope that people think of me fondly and that I was a good person. That I was a good bloke. Like my grandpa.”
Despite approaching his 40th birthday, Hemsworth admitted that he still doesn’t feel his age. He confessed, “I don’t think I wanna turn 40. I still feel like I’m 25 and I’ve got heaps of time. Now I’m like, ‘Oh, I could be halfway. More than halfway.’ It is a lot of time. If I get there! The reality of ‘I’m not going to be here forever’ is sinking in.”
The actor has found himself pondering the trajectory of his life and contemplating profound questions such as “Who am I? What am I doing? What’s my contribution? Is what I’m doing of value?” Hemsworth fondly recalled taking his grandfather on a promotional tour for Thor, indulging him in all the extravagances and luxuries. He reminisced, “I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to see his face.’ He had the same appreciative, happy look on his face that he had when he was cooking the burnt sausages in the backyard. It was all the same to him.”
He further added, “Everything has more importance now because of the realization that this isn’t going to last forever.”
Hemsworth’s introspective journey serves as a reminder to cherish each moment and strive to leave behind a positive legacy built on kindness and goodness.
