Dave Chappelle has responded to being canceled in the most Dave Chappelle way.
The controversial comedian became the latest victim of cancel culture after his Netflix show The Closer was met with widespread outrage for being transphobic and anti-gay.
Speaking to a sold out audience on the San Francisco leg of his 10-city stand up tour, Chappelle addressed the controversy.
“Man, I love being canceled,” Chappelle said to the crowd of 19,000. “It is a huge relief. It’s like getting Capone on tax evasion.”
At the end of the show, he addressed the situation again.
“For the past three or four weeks, they’ve been saying in the news that I’ve been canceled. It doesn’t matter. The point is, no matter what they say, we are together.”
