Doctor Michael has caused quite a stir on social media after sharing his earnings for a recent shift.

In a TikTok video, he revealed that he earned £30 ($36.11) per hour for a night shift that lasted from 10pm to 8:30am.

The doctor worked for 10 and a half hours, saw 18 patients, and performed a range of medical procedures, including resuscitating a lady with COPD, relocating a shoulder, stitching lacerations, and treating septic patients with fluids and IV antibiotics.

Dr. Michael works as a senior decision maker, meaning that all the junior doctors rely on him to make decisions about their patients.

He also has a lot of responsibility and rarely gets a break on his shifts due to the high volume of patients. Despite all of this, some viewers of the video were divided about whether or not Dr. Michael is overpaid.

Replying to @Rocket Bunny are doctors overpaid? You decide! Ive been a doctor for 14 years, with 20 years invested! For the work i do, i do not think im overpaid! 🙏🏻 i think healthcare workers are gaslit by the goverment and certain sections of the general public and dont appreciate their value! I’d encourgae all healthcare workers to step back and appreciate the great job you are dojng in the terrible working condiitions! ❤️ #doctor #pay #nhs #uk #nhs #nurse

One viewer commented that doctors deserve more pay, especially compared to footballers who earn much more.

Another viewer echoed this sentiment, saying that Dr. Michael should be paid double what he currently earns because he does an outstanding job. A third viewer stated that NHS staff, including doctors, deserve much more than they are currently being paid.

However, not everyone agreed. Some viewers thought that Dr. Michael’s pay was reasonable, given that he is not in a specialist role such as a surgeon. One viewer even went so far as to say that Dr. Michael’s take-home pay of £323.86 ($389.80) for a single shift was quite “kushty” and that he shouldn’t “whine too much” about it.

It is clear that there is a wide range of opinions on whether or not doctors are overpaid. However, Dr. Michael’s video sheds light on the hard work and long hours that doctors put in to save lives and improve the health of their patients.

As Dr. Michael himself said in the video, “I’m just giving you the numbers.” It is up to each individual viewer to decide whether or not those numbers represent fair compensation for the vital work that doctors do.
