The official Doomsday Clock has stayed at 100 seconds to midnight, which is the closest we’ve ever been to an Apocalypse.
The Doomsday Clock is used to signify how close the human race is from apocalypse.
The official definition reads:
‘For 75 years, the Doomsday Clock has acted as a metaphor for how close humanity is to self-annihilation,’ reads the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists’
This year due to climate change, coronavirus and the threat of war between Russia and Ukraine, the clock is at its closest to midnight.
At a press conference in Washington, Rachel Bronson, BAS president and chief executive warned we are ‘hovering dangerously close’.
“Today, the members of the Science and Security Board find the world to be no safer than it was last year at this time and therefore has decided to set the Doomsday Clock once again at 100 seconds to midnight.”
The reading is the same as it was in 2021, which is the closest it has been since the clock was introduced in 1947.
