Elon Musk has said he would lift the ban on former President Donald Trump after his deal closes to buy Twitter.
The richest man in the world said at FT Live’s Future of the Car Conference:
“PERMANENT bans should be extremely rare and really RESERVED for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts…i do not think it waS correct to ban DONALD Trump,”
“i think it was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ULTIMATELY result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”
“I would reverse the permanent ban,”
“I don’t own Twitter yet. So this is not like a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?”
At the time of his ban, Trump had over 80 million followers on Twitter.
Once the Tesla CEO announced that he was going to buy the platform to make it a free speech site, questions of Trump’s ban arose.
The 45th President of the United States said he would not return to the site if given the chance.
