Elon Musk has announced that he will resign as the Twitter CEO after a humiliating defeat in his own poll. More than 10 million people voted for him to step down.

On Sunday, the billionaire tweeted asking for people to vote if he should remain as head of the company or not. He promised to abide by the results of the poll.

By the end of the day on Monday, when the poll closed, 57.5% of votes said he should step down.

He did not respond for a few hours but eventually, the billionaire tweeted in response to people suggesting that the results were not accurate due to fake accounts voting. Musk tweeted “interesting”.

Someone then suggested that “Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy related polls”. Musk responded “Good point. Twitter will make that change.”

He then tweeted:

‘As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it’

He has now updated his followers, that he ‘will resign as CEO as soon as [he] find[s] someone foolish enough to take the job!’
