Eminem, one of the most iconic and successful rappers of all time, has revealed that he no longer performs one of his most popular songs, “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.”
The song, which was released in 2002 as the lead single from Eminem’s fourth studio album, “The Eminem Show,” quickly became a hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song is known for its raw and emotional lyrics, which detail Eminem’s tumultuous relationship with his mother and his struggles with fame.
But since the release of the hit song, Eminem has matured and made amends with his mom, and used another hit song to issue an apology.
On his 2013 song ‘Headlights’, he said:
“My mum probably got it the worst.
“The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are, did I take it too far?
“’Cleaning Out My Closet’ and all them other songs.
“But regardless, I don’t hate you ‘cause ma.
“You’re still beautiful to me, ‘cause you’re my mum.”
The heartfelt apology continues: “But I’m sorry mama for ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet,’ at the time I was angry.
“Rightfully maybe so, never meant that far to take it though, ‘cause.
“Now I know it’s not your fault and I’m not making jokes.
“That song I no longer pay at shows and I cringe every time it’s on the radio.”
As honest as ever.
