An unnamed former Disney executive has predicted that Johnny Depp will return to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise post-verdict.

The actor has played Captain Jack Sparrow in the films since 2003 when he appeared as the infamous marauder in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Depp would go on to play Captain Jack in four additional hit movies, who is much loved by fans all around the world.

The producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, has hope that Depp will be able to return to his role in a future film.

It was announced by the jury on Wednesday that Depp had won the case against ex wife Amber Heard which started over her 2018 Washington Post op-ed where she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse.

The actor won $15 million in total, $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. However, Judge Penney Azcarate reduced the punitive damages to meet the state’s statutory cap of $350,000.

Disney made the decision to stop his return to any future projects, including a long-awaited sixth Pirates movie. However, a former Disney executive told People:

“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,”

“There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”

“With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises,”

Depp fans would love to see the star back as Captain Jack!
