Hugh Grant’s interview with Ashley Graham on the red carpet at the 95th Annual Academy Awards was uncomfortable to watch as the actor showed his disdain towards her questions.
Despite Graham’s bubbly and upbeat demeanor, Grant’s responses were brief and unenthusiastic. When Graham asked him about his role in “Glass Onion,” Grant replied that he was barely in it and offered a lukewarm response when asked if he had fun filming.
He also gave a one-word answer when asked what he was wearing.
Viewers at home felt embarrassed for Graham and criticized Grant’s behavior, with some calling it the worst interview ever.
They praised Graham for how she handled the situation and felt that Grant should not have walked the carpet if he didn’t want to talk about the event.
Some compared the moment to Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 ceremony.
Later in the evening, Grant reunited with his “Four Weddings and a Funeral” co-star Andie MacDowell to present an award. Grant made a crude joke, saying that time had been kinder to MacDowell and that he looked like “a scrotum.” The audience laughed while MacDowell looked scandalized.
Grant’s wife Anna Eberstein stunned in an elegant gown as she joined her husband and a host of other British stars at the event.
Brendan Fraser had tears in his eyes as he accepted the Best Actor award for “The Whale.” He thanked the Academy for the honor and the studio A24 for making the film. He also thanked the writer Samuel D. Hunter and his cast, saying that he couldn’t have done it without them.
