    Meatball Ingredients (Makes 16 – 20 Meatballs):

    • 500g beef mince
    • 250g pork mince
    • 1 finely chopped onion
    • 1 clove of garlic (crushed or minced)
    • 100g breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg
    • 5 tablespoons of whole milk
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Swedish Cream Sauce Ingredients:

    • A dash of oil
    • 40g butter
    • 40g plain flour
    • 150ml vegetable stock
    • 150ml beef stock
    • 150ml thick double cream
    • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

    Meatballs Instructions:

    1. Combine beef and pork mince, ensuring thorough mixing to eliminate any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, and mix well. Incorporate milk and season generously with salt and pepper.
    2. Shape the mixture into small, round balls. Place them on a clean plate, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours to help them retain their shape during cooking.
    3. In a frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Once hot, gently add your meatballs and brown them on all sides.
    4. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to an ovenproof dish, cover, and place in a preheated oven (180°C or 160°C fan) for an additional 30 minutes.

    Swedish Cream Sauce Instructions:

    1. In a frying pan, melt 40g of butter. Gradually whisk in 40g of plain flour and continue cooking, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes to cook the flour through.
    2. Add 150ml of vegetable stock and 150ml of beef stock while continuing to stir. Incorporate 150ml of thick double cream, 2 teaspoons of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken, stirring continuously.

When you’re ready to savor these delicious meatballs, serve them with your preferred potatoes, whether it’s creamy mashed potatoes or petite new boiled potatoes.

With this recipe in hand, you can enjoy the taste of Ikea-style Swedish meatballs in the comfort of your own kitchen, bridging the gap until you can once again relish the real thing during your next visit to Ikea.
