Jennifer Lopez expressed her fear that Leonardo DiCaprio would be upset with her after she revealed his “flirty” text message to the world.
During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2016, the 53-year-old singer, known for hits like “Jenny From the Block,” engaged in a hilarious prank with the 44-year-old talk show host.
The prank involved exchanging flirty text messages with the 48-year-old Oscar-winning actor.
Lopez and Corden entertained the audience with their music-themed segment Carpool Karaoke, singing some of Lopez’s biggest hits, including “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” and “On The Floor.” In addition to the karaoke session, they decided to play a prank on DiCaprio.
Corden, using Lopez’s phone, sent a text message that appeared to come from her but was actually crafted by DiCaprio himself. The message read: “Hey baby, I’m kinda feeling like I need to cut loose. Any suggestions? Let me know, J Lo. You know, from the block.”
The Monster-in-Law actress anxiously watched as Corden typed away on her phone. To their surprise, DiCaprio responded enthusiastically, saying, “You mean tonight, boo-boo? Club-wise?”
The following year, during Lopez’s return to The Late Late Show, she and Corden shared more details about the text exchange with the Titanic star. Corden admitted that his favorite part of their collaboration was texting Leonardo DiCaprio, prompting him to ask Lopez about DiCaprio’s reaction.
“How mad did he get?” Corden inquired, joined by guests Terry Crews and Justin Theroux. Lopez reassured him, saying, “He wasn’t mad at all! You know, I was afraid he would be mad when it all came out – he was so cool about it.”
Corden then recited the text message to refresh everyone’s memory in the studio.
Lopez confessed that the waiting period for DiCaprio’s reply was the “most embarrassing 20 minutes” for her. When his response finally arrived, she was surprised by it.
“That also surprised me – that he actually thought that was me texting him,” Lopez revealed.
She continued, “He answered back like it was totally normal that you would speak that way to him.”
Curious for more details, Corden probed, “Did you know he calls you boo-boo?” Lopez cheekily responded, seemingly poking fun at DiCaprio’s reputation as a perpetual bachelor, saying, “I guess he calls every girl boo-boo!”
In an unexpected turn of events, a company even began printing T-shirts featuring DiCaprio’s text message on the front.
While it remains unclear whether DiCaprio was aware of the prank, one thing is certain – he certainly knows how to play along when it comes to having a good time.
