Jimmy Kimmel has revealed how he would’ve handled the Will Smith fiasco at the Oscars awards ceremony if he had been hosting.
Will Smith very publicly slapped Chris Rock after the comedian compared Will’s Wife, Jada Pinkett Smith to G.I Jane, which was highly inappropriate and insensitive as Jada has been very open about her hair loss journey due to alopecia.
Kimmel said on Monday night:
“I said to my wife, ‘They did a really good job with that punch, it looked so real,’”
About three seconds later, we realized it was because it was real.”
Kimmel, a two-time host of the awards himself, praised Rock for his professional attitude to the situation:
“[Rock] handled it about as well as you could possibly handle being slapped on stage at the Oscars. He didn’t even flinch when Will slapped him,”
“I would’ve been crying so hard.”
When asked what he would have done in Rock’s situation, Kimmel replied:
“I would’ve run.”
