Joe Jonas has officially filed for divorce from his wife of four years, Sophie Turner. In the court documents filed on September 5, Joe stated that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” according to E! News.
The couple shares two daughters, Willa, aged 3, and a 14-month-old baby girl referred to as D.J. in the court documents. Joe has been the primary caregiver for their children, and they have been residing with him in his Miami home, as well as other residences in the U.S.
In terms of custody arrangements, the court documents emphasize that it is in the best interests of their minor children for both parties to have shared parental responsibility. The petition also calls for the establishment of a “timesharing schedule providing for frequent and continuing contact with both parties” and outlines the “child support obligation of each party.”
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, aged 34 and 27, respectively, had been married for four years before their separation. The court documents also note that the couple has a valid prenuptial agreement in place.
Rumors of trouble in their marriage began circulating shortly before Joe’s divorce filing. While neither Joe nor Sophie publicly commented on their separation, Joe posted a photo on social media over Labor Day weekend in which he prominently displayed his wedding ring.
“Happy Labor Day weekend everyone,” Joe captioned the photo, which featured him alongside his brothers Kevin and Nick Jonas. “This tour has been incredible so far! Having a little family time in the Texas sunset tonight before a big Austin show tomorrow.”
Just a month before, on August 15, Sophie had celebrated Joe’s 34th birthday by posting a picture of them wearing matching pajamas and writing, “Happy birthday handsome.” She had also supported Joe during the Jonas Brothers’ New York City shows at Yankee Stadium as they kicked off their world tour.
Throughout their relationship, Joe and Sophie kept many details of their personal life away from the public eye. In a November 2022 interview with Mr. Porter, Joe mentioned that he found it challenging to be completely open about his life.
“But when we started dating, I realized that I didn’t have a ton of stuff that was just for me,” he explained. “And in the end, it makes me a better person to have something for myself.”
Sophie humorously revealed some insights into their different lifestyles during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Everything seems to be working out in my favor, because Joe’s a real social butterfly, so I struggle to kind of lock him down and have him just spend time with me,” she joked during an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show, “Conan at Home,” in March 2020. “So it’s like prison for him, but it’s great for me.”
