Johnny Depp told the courtroom that his ex-wife Amber Heard did plenty of drugs, too.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor launched a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post. The trial started Monday 11 April in Fairfax, Virginia.
On Wednesday, Depp took to the stand to attempt to clear his name against Heard’s accusations that he was a domestic abuser.
In regards to drugs, the iconic actor claimed that Heard wasn’t so innocent as she was “quite fond” of them – he claimed she had taken MDMA, mushrooms and what he called “high velocity speed.”
Depp claimed that he had witnessed his ex-wife take MDMA about twenty times and magic mushrooms about seven times, during their relationship.
He also stated that she took additional medications, one of which the actor described as “high velocity speed.”
When questioned about the 35-year-old’s drinking habits, he said she could easily drink two bottles of wine on a given evening. He even asked her if she wanted to join him in his path to sobriety, as a show of support to her husband – she said no.
When asked why he stayed in an alleged abusive relationship, Depp said he:
“I stayed because I didn’t want to fail,”
“I didn’t want to hurt anyone. Especially Miss Heard. I didn’t want to break her heart.”
