Johnny Depp claimed on the stand under oath that Amber Heard put a cigarette out on his face after she threw a vodka bottle at him, resulting in him injuring his finger.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor launched a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post.
Depp took to the stand to attempt to clear his name against Heard’s accusations that he was a domestic abuser.
On 20th April, Depp recalled the moment in Australia where the tip of his finger was severed, which the actor claims happened because Heard threw two vodka bottles at him.
“I don’t know what a nervous breakdown feels like, but that’s probably the closest that I’ve ever been,”
“Nothing made sense and I knew in my mind and my heart this is not life… No one should have to go through this.”
After he described the incident, the courtroom was shown a picture of Depp in the hospital which prompted him to add another injury he alleged was caused by Heard:
“I see a detail that I’d forgotten which is the… Ms Heard had taken my cigarette from the ash tray and stomped it out in my face,”
Heard denies throwing the bottles at Depp and her lawyers previously pointed out that the actor had told the hospital staff he had caused the injury accidently.
Depp responded by saying he didn’t want to get his then wife, in trouble:
“I lied because I didn’t want to disclose that it had been Ms Heard that had thrown a vodka bottle at me and then took my finger off. I didn’t want to get her in trouble…”
“I tried to just keep things as copacetic and as easy as possible for everything. I did not want to put her name in that mix.”
Depp had previously said that his only goal in all of this is the truth…
