Johnny Depp has replied to claims that he drew a penis in blood and paint after his finger was injured in Australia.

Depp launched a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post. The trial began Monday 11 April i Fairfax, Virginia.

The 58-year-old took to the stand in an attempt to clear his name against Heard’s accusations that he was a domestic abuser.

In his testimony on 20 April, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor claimed the tip of his finger was sliced off while in a heated argument with Heard which resulted in her throwing two vodka bottles at him, severing the actor’s fingertip.

While on the stand, the courtroom was shown several photographs including a painting, a mirror and a lampshade covered in graffiti appearing to have been drawn in a mixture of blood and paint.

Depp recalled how he felt in the middle of the argument:

“i was a mess, i was a wreck…”

Depp said:

“I don’t know what a nervous breakdown feels like, but that’s probably the closest that I’ve ever been,”

“Nothing made sense and I knew in my mind and in my heart that this is not life.”

The actor said that that was the closest he’s felt to having a nervous breakdown “to write in [his] own blood on the walls”.

When asked if he drew a penis on a painting with a mixture of blood and paint, using “his own finger as a paintbrush”, Depp said:

“I don’t remember drawing a penis on a painting”

“given that I had written some messages on the bathroom mirror and then ms heard…added to them…it’s also not impossible that ms heard may have drawn a penis on…a painting somewhere.”
