Johnny Depp was set to be paid $22.5 million for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 before Disney cancelled it following the ‘catastrophic’ Amber Heard allegations.
Depp launched a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, after the Aquaman star described herself as a victim of domestic abuse in a 2018 article she penned in The Washington Post. The trial started Monday 11 April in Fairfax, Virginia.
The iconic actor has played Captain Jack Sparrow in the franchise since 2003 where he appeared as the infamous marauder in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The actor would go on to play Captain Jack in four additional hit movies and is much loved by fans all around the world, in the franchise.
The 58-year-old was set to be paid $22.5 million for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, his talent manager, Jack Whigham, testified in court. However, the movie was not made due to Heard’s allegations.
Whigham testified that since 2018 the iconic actor has been cast in lower-paying independent movies and hasn’t filmed a movie since 2020.
