K-Pop stars BTS are obligated to serve 18 months in the army, according to Kim Gunn, South Korea’s Ambassador to Great Britain.
South Korea requires all men ages 18 to 28 to serve for at least 18 months and Gunn has made it clear the pop stars are no exception.
There’s plenty reason to worry these days, North Korea has become extremely aggressive and Kim Jong-Un is even more unstable – recently firing a missile that could potentially carry warheads once the country develops the technology.
The Ambassador said:
“It is very much expected that young Korean men serve the country and those BTS members are role models for many young-generation Koreans.”
However, he gave no indication of timeframe for when the boyband would be called to defend their country.
It does bring back the story of Elvis Presley who at the peak of his career in the 1950s joined the military. He was able to continue his career after serving but not to the same level it was before.
Do you agree that the stars should be called to defend their country?
