At the 2023 South By Southwest (SXSW) film festival, Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski received numerous standing ovations from the crowd following the premiere of their latest film, John Wick: Chapter 4.
The conference featured a special Q&A session, during which Reeves shared a heartwarming and rather saucy moment with an audience member who proposed to him.
When Reeves revealed that he kept John Wick’s watch and wedding ring from the previous movies, a fan shouted: “I’ll marry you!” Reeves, known for his humility, replied, “Yeah, be careful what you wish for.”
Early reviews of the highly anticipated neo-noir action film have been overwhelmingly positive, with John Wick: Chapter 4 receiving an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reviewer Ed Travis from Cinapse went so far as to call the film “simply one of the greatest action films of this generation, and perhaps of all time.”
Critics praised the film’s action sequences, with John Nguyen calling it a “higher level” and Aaron Peterson declaring that there might not be another movie like it for quite some time.
Reeves reprises his titular role as John Wick, while Ian McShane returns as Winston and Lance Reddick as Charon. The film also features Bill Skarsgård as The Marquis de Gramont, Shamier Anderson as The Tracker, Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, and Clancy Brown as The Harbinger.
While details about the film’s plot have been kept under wraps, Stahelski teased in a previous interview that they had written a longer and bigger movie, with at least a third more scenes than the previous installment. He expressed confidence in their execution, saying, “I think the answer’s yes” when asked if the film was worth the extra effort.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be released on March 24, and fans are eagerly anticipating another thrilling chapter in the franchise.
