Lil Yachty Says Black Lives Matter Is A ‘Scam’

Rapper Lil Yachty sparked controversy after calling Black Lives Matter (BLM) a “scam” during an appearance on Feeding Starving Celebrities, a YouTube show hosted by influencer Quenlin Blackwell. When asked if he had donated to the movement, Yachty responded bluntly, claiming that BLM misused donations to purchase luxury properties. His remarks referenced past allegations against BLM’s leadership, particularly the revelation that the organization spent $6 million on a California mansion in 2020.

Blackwell, who identifies as pro-Black, was visibly shocked by Yachty’s comments and challenged him on his stance. Yachty doubled down, stating that many people are unaware of BLM’s financial controversies because they don’t “follow Black news.” The conversation quickly gained traction online, with some agreeing with Yachty’s criticism and others calling his remarks uninformed.

BLM fired back with a strongly worded statement, accusing Yachty of promoting “white supremacist ideology” and spreading misinformation. The organization defended its record, arguing that it has funded mutual aid programs, fought legal battles, and supported families affected by police violence. BLM also dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement as “inflammatory and speculative.”

The debate over BLM’s financial transparency has been ongoing since reports surfaced about the group’s spending habits. While some believe Yachty is raising valid concerns, others argue that his comments oversimplify the movement’s impact. The controversy highlights the ongoing divide over BLM’s role in activism and accountability.
