Riley Keough, daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, and her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, have welcomed their first child, a baby girl.
The news was announced during a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away at the age of 54 last week.
Smith-Petersen read a letter from Keough to her late mother, which included the revelation of the new arrival.
In the letter, Keough thanked her mother for showing her “love is the only thing that matters in this life,” and expressed her hope to “love my daughter the way you loved me.”
The couple, who got married in 2015, did not reveal the baby’s name or birthdate.
During the memorial service, Riley’s husband read a heartfelt letter from her, in which she fondly remembered her mother.
“I remember you giving me baths as a baby, driving me in my car seat listening to Aretha Franklin … taking me for ice cream after school in Florida,” she wrote. “I remember you singing to me and my brother lullabies at night, and how you’d lay with us until we fell asleep.” She went on to say, “I remember how it felt be loved by the most loving mother I’ve ever known. How safe it felt to be in your arms: I remember that feeling as a child and I remember it two weeks ago on your couch.”
The news of the new arrival is bittersweet, coming just days after the loss of Lisa Marie Presley, but it is clear that her legacy of love will live on through her children and grandchildren.
In an Instagram post last week, Riley paid tribute to her mother with a throwback photo of herself holding flowers while looking up at her mom, captioned simply with a red heart emoji.
