So, back in the jolly spirit of the upcoming festive season, let’s take a moment to revisit the story of the celebrated actor, who decided to allow social media to determine his middle name alteration.
In December 2018, Culkin shared on his website Bunny Ears, musing on the oddity of his middle name and expressing a desire for a change. “My middle name is […] Larry? Orange? Honestly, I can’t even remember it,” he humorously noted. He invited fans to submit suggestions for his new middle name, intending to convince a judge of the need for a middle name upgrade.
Among the numerous amusing suggestions received, Culkin shortlisted five, which included TheMcRibIsBack, Kieran, Shark Week, Publicity Stunt, and Macaulay Culkin. While all were quite amusing, only one would take the title.
The Party Monster star organized a vote that spanned until Christmas Eve, hoping for a splendid gift from everyone. He comically shared that amid his gold-plated watercraft and chrome-plated invisibility cloaks, all he desired for Christmas was a new middle name.
Keeping his promise, Culkin announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Christmas Day that his legal name would henceforth be changed to (drum roll, please)… Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.
“It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name),” he quipped.
He held true to his word, as his Wikipedia page even began with ‘Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin’. This humorous event certainly made its rounds, although it’s easy to forget amidst all that has occurred since 2018.
But there’s someone who hasn’t overlooked this rather odd occurrence, as one X user took to the platform recently, expressing disbelief at the bizarre name change and pointing out that it actually happened. Another user wisely remarked, “Could have been worse. Much worse.”
