Speculations regarding the circumstances leading to Matthew Perry’s tragic death have emerged, as his ex-girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, suggests the possibility of a relapse in the actor’s battle with addiction. In an interview with the UK Sun, Edwards expressed her doubts about Perry’s reported drowning, asserting that he “wouldn’t have just drowned” and implying a potential connection to pill consumption.
Edwards, a former model who claims to have briefly dated Perry in 2006 after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, disclosed that they remained close even after their romantic involvement ended. In 2011, she served as his assistant. Perry, renowned for his role in “Friends,” was found dead at 54 in his Los Angeles home on October 28, reportedly from an apparent drowning in a jacuzzi.
Despite initial toxicology reports ruling out fentanyl or meth, Edwards contends that certain aspects of Perry’s demise raise concerns. “Things aren’t adding up,” she said, questioning the absence of prescription painkillers at the scene. She noted that Perry, who had a history of addiction, was cautious about leaving drugs unattended, suggesting a scenario where he would consume them all and then seek more when ready.
Edwards pointed to Perry’s final Instagram post, just five days before his passing, as a potential indicator of a relapse. The post featured a photo of Perry in a jacuzzi with the caption, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.” Edwards claimed that Perry’s use of “Mattman” was a sign of his alter ego emerging during times of substance use, making him feel invincible.
According to Edwards, Perry had a penchant for being in the water while under the influence, recounting an incident where a neighbour found him “naked and high in his [neighbour’s] swimming pool.” She emphasised that Perry was allegedly always alone during such episodes.

In Perry’s memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the actor candidly detailed his prolonged struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. It’s back-to-the-wall time all the time. It’s going to kill me…”
