TikTok might mostly be annoying dances and trends that make us all feel really old, but a viral video on the platform has resulted in a missing girl being found.
A missing North Carolina teenager used TikTok hand signals from a video that shows you what to do when you’re in danger.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SIGNAL
Isolation can increase the risk of violence at home. Use this discrete gesture during a video call to show you need help:
1. Hold hand up with palm facing other person.
2. Tuck thumb into palm.
3. Fold fingers down over thumb. pic.twitter.com/gsIgSbXOmc— Halton Police (@HaltonPolice) August 24, 2021
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky confirmed the unnamed girl was inside a silver Toyota car when someone passing saw the 16-year-old using hand signals known on TikTok “to represent violence at home — I need help — domestic violence.”
The citizen immediately called the police and told them that the girl was in distress.
