Piers Morgan, former host of Good Morning Britain, is facing criticism for his insensitive joke about Madonna’s appearance at the recent Grammy Awards.

On Sunday, February 5th, Madonna took to the stage to present the award for Best Pop Duo, wearing a corset-detailed suit with a white shirt and black tie.

After her appearance, Piers posted a close-up shot of Madonna’s face on social media with the caption “I thought Halloween was in October?” See below:

This statement by Piers sparked backlash from social media users who labeled his joke as “cruel.”

One person commented, “Don’t be cruel Piers. Madonna rocks,” while another added, “Why are you shaming her? Shame on you!”

Some users even called for Piers to do better, with one person writing, “Cruel and unnecessary to comment in such a way. Please do better.”

Many Grammy viewers had already taken to social media to question the changes in Madonna’s appearance, with one person writing, “Whaaaaaat happened to Madonna’s face?! #GRAMMYs,” and another adding, “Has Madonna been nominated for ‘Best New Face’ at this year’s Grammy Awards?”

Despite the criticism, Madonna remains confident in her choices and shared on stage, “So, here’s what I’ve learned after four decades in music — if they call you shocking, scandalous, troublesome, problematic, provocative or dangerous, you’re definitely on to something.”

It’s important to remember that everyone has the right to present themselves however they choose, and it’s never okay to make cruel or insensitive jokes about someone’s appearance.

Piers’ comments were not only hurtful but also sparked further criticism and negativity towards Madonna, who has already faced enough criticism throughout her long and successful career in the music industry.
