The police have released a statement after Mike Tyson punched a man on a flight in the now viral video clip.

Tyson says the man he reportedly punched in the face repeatedly on a plane threw a water bottle at him first.

TMZ Sports reported that the incident took place on Wednesday night at around 10.30pm PT as the former pro boxer was due to fly out of San Francisco International Airport on his way to Florida.

An eye-witness on the plane said as he and his friend were boarding, Tyson seemed relaxed. The witness told TMZ that he took a selfie with the 55-year-old but that he soon lost his patience with the overly eager fan who kept trying to talk to him.

Tyson apparently told the fan to chill…when he didn’t, the witness said Tyson threw several punches at the man’s face.

Tyson’s reps have since released a statement and told TMZ the man provoked the boxer by throwing a water bottle at him.

San Francisco police have also released a statement. They told TMZ Sports that the man in the video was detained after the incident but refused to cooperate with them after receiving medical attention for his injuries.

They said they detained two people that they believed to be involved in the incident. The SFPD added that after one of the people detained was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, that person “provided minimal details of the incident and refused to cooperate further with the police investigation.”
