Despite playing one of the movies main characters, Jonah Hill only got $60,000 for The Wolf of Wall Street.

That is more than the average person earns in a year but in terms of Hollywood salaries – $60k is practically minimum wage.

According to the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG), it was the lowest wage Hill could have been paid and when compared to Leo DiCaprio’s $10 million salary – it seems crazy.

On The Howard Stern show back in 2014, the actor admitted that this particular project was “not about the money”.

His desire to work with the film’s director, Martin Scorsese, overtook his need for an over-the-top pay check.

He said:

“They gave me the lowest amount of money possible.”

“That was their offer and I said, ‘I will sign the paper tonight. Fax them the papers tonight. I want to sign them tonight before they change their mind. I want to sign them before I go to sleep tonight so they legally can’t change their mind’.” “I would sell my house and give him all my money to work for him.”

A decision that clearly paid off as the movie was a huge success.
