Ricky Gervais has stirred the pot with an alopecia joke in response to the Will Smith/Chris Rock situation which took place at the Oscars award ceremony on Sunday evening.
The Academy Awards ended up on chaos after Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock in the face, following the comedian’s insensitive comparison of the actors wife to G.I. Jane, given her shaved head.
Jada Pinkett Smith has been open about her struggles with alopecia recently and didn’t appreciate being the butt of the joke.
Ricky Gervais was one of many celebs who have given their thoughts and opinions on the situation.
Gervais retweeted a clip from the second series of The Office, in which his character David Brent makes a remark about the medical condition alopecia:
“And she's got alopecia. So… not a happy homelife." pic.twitter.com/b1NYWWIncX

While the comedian/actor didn’t add any caption alongside the video, his followers have found it comical regardless, commenting:
‘I’ve been checking @rickygervais’s Twitter, waiting for his take on last night’s drama. And find this, ‘Sums up his position nicely.’
‘I’ve been waiting all day for your reply and as always, nailed it.’
While many think Gervais is being highly insensitive:
‘It’s one thing to make fun of the disease (or a fictional character) but another to pick on one specific real-life person who has the disease,’
‘Especially if she’s sitting in the audience. Does no one else see the issue or am I just too sensitive?’
What’s your take on this bizarre situation?
