Robert Downey Jr has reportedly been providing ‘financial assistance and housing’ to disgraced actor Armie Hammer after his career has collapsed.
Vanity Fair reported that the 57-year-old has been emotionally and financially supporting the actor despite him being at the centre of sexual assault and rape allegations.
The Iron Man actor has also allegedly “stepped in to steer” Hammer to a rehab centre and has paid for a six-month stay at a Florida facility.
Multiple people spoke to the publication last year and hinted at unresolved trauma in the actor’s past as well as an ongoing substance abuse issues.
A close friend of Hammer’s said:
“Everyone looks at Armie thinking that he’s had some sort of privileged life—and that must mean there were no problems in his youth and everything was peachy keen,”
“But that’s not necessarily the way things go. Just because you come from an upbringing where financial resources are plentiful doesn’t mean life isn’t without problems.”
Hammer has recently been allegedly selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands – where he is currently living to be near his ex-wife and children.
