Scarlett Johansson is not happy at all with Disney after the release of Black Widow.
The Hollywood superstar is suing Disney for breach of contract after it streamed the blockbuster movie at the same time as it was released in theatres, which is a big no no.
Black Widow had a successful opening and has set a box office record for the Covid-19 pandemic, by grossing $218m in its first weekend.
But after the opening weekend, movie goers stopped flocking to watch the movie in theatres and Johansson is arguing that that is because of Disney releasing it on its streaming service.
And subsequently she has been starved of potential earnings. According to the BBC, Johansson’s salary was based on the box office performance of the film, and she has lost up to $50m.
Johansson has also claimed that Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, promised her that Black Widow was to be a theatrical release.
Things are about to get messy.
