Selena Gomez has returned to TikTok after taking a hiatus from the social media platform amid drama between her and Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber.
However, she seemed very aware of the toll the fan frenzy surrounding the apparent feud might have on everyone involved.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the “Only Murder in the Building” star recently revealed she handed off her social media accounts to her assistant after going through a rough breakup and she was “inundated” with mean comments.
She revealed that people can call her “ugly” or “stupid” and she is okay with it. However, the people who write paragraphs that are so specific and mean can make her cry and feel anxious.
The drama ensued after Selena took to TikTok to name Bella Hadid her new #girlcrush and gushed over the 26-year-old supermodel’s beauty.
After her post, Jenner shared a video of herself highlighting her lush-looking eyebrows with the caption, “this was an accident ?????”
In another slide, Kylie shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call she had with Hailey, zooming in on both of their brows — which made fans believe the Kylie Cosmetics guru was throwing shade at Gomez.
Selena then responded to Kylie’s comment directly, sharing the same sentiments, “Agreed @kyliejenner,” she said. “It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
Selena announced she was taking time away from social media last month.
“I’m going to be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly,” she explained on February 23. “I’m 30 and am too old for this. But I love you so much, and I’ll see you guys sooner than later. I’m just gonna take a break from everything.”
The multi-hyphenate artist made her comeback with a makeup tutorial video and dropped into the comment section to leave some gratitude and even a little advice to her massive fan base.
“Thank you and love you all so much,” Selena wrote. “I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy.”
Selena pleaded with fans to be kinder amid an online war waged between fans of Hailey/Kylie and Selena.
“Please, please be kinder and consider others’ mental health,” Selena added. “My heart has been heavy, and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Selena revealed that the only social media app she has on her phone is TikTok as she finds it to be “a little less hostile.”
“There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories,” Gomez said.

Previously, Hailey and Selena dismissed any beef between the two when they posed together for a photo in October after years of fans on either side pitting them against one another over their relationships with Justin Bieber.
In conclusion, social media can be very harmful to one’s mental health, and it is crucial to be kind to everyone, including celebrities.
Selena’s return to TikTok is a sign of her strong will and determination to spread positivity and love despite the drama that surrounds her life.
