A chilling horror film that has resurfaced on TikTok is haunting viewers and leaving them terrified to sleep.
The director of the movie has even advised against watching it at night, emphasizing its profoundly creepy nature.
Released in 2011, Megan is Missing has once again shocked fans more than a decade after its initial release. The film’s graphic content has traumatized viewers, prompting New Zealand to ban it due to its disturbing and unsettling scenes.
The plot revolves around two teenage best friends, Megan Stewart (played by Rachel Quinn) and Amy Herman (Amber Perkins), who live in North Hollywood. The movie depicts their ordinary teenage lives until Megan mysteriously vanishes after interacting with someone she met online. The film has faced significant criticism for its explicit and shocking scenes, leading to its prohibition by the Office of Film & Literature Classification in New Zealand.
A spokesperson explained the decision, stating, “The DVD is classified as objectionable. The feature depicts sexual violence and sexual conduct involving young people to such an extent and degree, and in such a manner, that the availability of the publication is likely to be injurious to the public good.”
Following the viral clip on TikTok, the director of the horrifying movie, Michael Goi, offered his insights and cautionary words to potential viewers. He warned, “I didn’t get to give you the customary warnings that I used to give people before they watched Megan Is Missing. They are: do not watch the movie in the middle of the night, do not watch the movie alone, and if you see the words ‘Photo Number one’ pop up on your screen, you have about four seconds to shut off the movie if you’re already freaking out before you start seeing things that maybe you don’t want to see.”
Although the film was marketed as a “true story,” it is important to note that this was not the case.
The movie loosely drew inspiration from the potential dangers young girls could encounter while interacting with strangers online. It serves as a cautionary tale and a strong deterrent against engaging with unknown individuals.
In the comments section of the viral TikTok video, one user provided an additional warning to curious viewers, advising, “If you are easily triggered or under 18, please watch it during the day or with someone… or both.” Another commenter expressed their emotional response after watching the film, writing, “I just watched it. I feel like I want to cry now.”
