The Little Mermaid Live-Action Trailer Gets 1.5 Million Dislikes on YouTube

The live-action trailer for The Little Mermaid was released and has received a lot of negative backlash, with over 1.5 million dislikes on YouTube.

Many Disney fans commented that it does not look like Ariel is under water.

Others mentioned that the visual effects that we have come to expect from Disney were not up to scratch.

The trailer went viral after parents filmed their kids reactions and posted them online, many of whom were young black girls.

Many parents proving how important representation is for young kids growing up.

Halle Bailey, the actress who plays Ariel, said she was honored to be playing a Disney Princess as a woman of color:

“The fact that now it’s getting to be played by me, a person who looks like me, woman of colour, I’m just like, wow, I’m so grateful for what it will do for all the other little Black and brown boys and girls who will see themselves in me.”

“Because I know if I had seen myself when I was younger, I think my whole perspective would’ve changed.”
