Tucker Carlson, known for his controversial and outspoken commentary, has departed from Fox News, and it appears that some of his most devoted fans are taking drastic action in response.
The usual “Tucker Carlson Tonight” show was notably absent on Monday night, with Brian Kilmeade hosting “Fox News Tonight” instead.
Kilmeade briefly acknowledged Carlson’s departure, stating, “As you probably have heard, Fox News and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. I wish Tucker the best. I’m great friends with Tucker and always will be. But right now, it’s time for ‘Fox News Tonight’, so let’s get started…”
Fox News announced on Monday that they had “parted ways” with Carlson, who was undoubtedly one of their biggest presenters, just days after settling a $787 million defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems over lies about the 2020 Presidential Election.
In response to the settlement, Fox issued a statement saying, “We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.” However, it seems that Carlson’s departure has sparked a backlash among his fans, with many of them threatening to cancel their Fox Nation subscriptions. Fox Nation is a subscription video-on-demand service launched by Fox News in 2018, where users pay $5.99 per month (or $64.99 per year for The Patriot Plan) for “entertaining and informative shows that highlight the unique stories, history, and people”, according to the Fox website.
Some fans have already taken action, with writer Scott Morefield tweeting, “I just canceled my Fox Nation subscription with the note: ‘No Tucker Carlson, no Fox Nation subscription. Goodbye.’ Who is doing the same?”
Another Twitter user, self-described as “Ultra-MAGA”, shared a screenshot of their cancellation, captioning the post, “Just canceled my #FoxNation subscription! FU @FoxNews #TuckerCarlson was the only reason I still watched!!” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one person tweeting, “Just canceled my Fox Nation subscription. No point in having it w/o Tucker Carlson Originals.”
Another wrote, “Effective immediately I have canceled my @foxnation subscription. Can’t wait to see where Tucker Carlson lands.”
However, not everyone is upset about Carlson’s departure.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent progressive politician, shared her approval in a recent social media post.
Despite this, it is clear that Carlson has a dedicated fanbase who are expressing their dissatisfaction with his absence from Fox News by cancelling their subscriptions to Fox Nation.
It remains to be seen how Fox News will respond to the departure of one of their most popular hosts and the potential loss of subscribers.
