Vera Wang, the renowned fashion designer, is celebrating her 74th birthday today.
Known for her age-defying looks, Wang has shared her secrets to maintaining youthfulness and aims to inspire other women to feel confident and comfortable with the aging process.
In May 2020, Vera Wang caused a stir on social media when she posted a photo of herself wearing a vibrant orange crop-top, white shorts, and stylish sunglasses.
Instagram users were astounded by her slender figure and flawless skin, leading to inquiries about her supposed “fountain of youth.” Despite the speculation, Wang remains modest and downplays the attention she received.
During an interview with People in April this year, Wang expressed her surprise at the viral reaction, stating, “I’ve been to the Met Gala. I’ve gone to the Oscars. It’s crazy. Seriously, when I say to people, ‘I don’t get it.’ If we planned something like this, it would’ve never happened.”
Regarding her ageless appearance, Wang attributed it to the fact that people’s perception of what 70 looks like has changed. She mentioned having friends in their mid-60s to 70s who also look fantastic. Wang hopes her appearance inspires women to feel more comfortable and confident, emphasizing that there are numerous definitions of what a woman can be.
When asked about her routine, Wang shared surprisingly simple tips. Her advice includes working hard, getting sufficient sleep, enjoying an occasional vodka cocktail, and protecting the skin from the sun.
Wang believes that staying active and engaged in work keeps the mind and spirit youthful, which ultimately affects the body.
She also stresses the importance of sleep, avoiding sun exposure without sunscreen, and having good lighting. Additionally, Wang admits to indulging in a vodka cocktail after 5 or 6 p.m., typically around 7 p.m.
Wang’s straightforward approach to maintaining her youthful appearance resonates with many.
While she acknowledges the influence of her routine, she remains grounded and realistic about the aging process. Her emphasis on confidence, self-acceptance, and embracing individual definitions of womanhood is a refreshing perspective.
