A waitress in Arkansas has been fired after some generous customers left her a huge $4k tip after their meal.

Waitress Ryan Brandt and a colleague worked a party of more than 40 guests at the Oven and Tap in Bentonville. To Brandt’s surprise, each of the guests left a $100 tip, resulting in a total tip of $4,000.

One of the diners said:

“We knew servers really hit hard through COVID, and it was something that we had come up with to help give back,”

All of the diners who enjoyed their meal were under the impression the tip would go to the servers. But that wasn’t to be the case.

The waitress’ manager said they would be given only 20% of the tip.

When one of the guests found out, they demanded the restaurant return the tip money. And then generously handed over $2,200 directly to Brandt.

When the restaurant found out, they fired Brandt the next day.

Brandt told CBS 5:

“They fired me from Oven and Tap over the phone and I’ve been there for 3 1/2 years and that was really heartbreaking,”

“Especially because I didn’t think I did anything wrong.”

Oven and Tap released a statement denying the tip was the reason for Brandt getting the can.

“After dining, this large group of guests requested that their gratuity be given to two particular servers. We fully honored their request. Out of respect for our highly valued team members, we do not discuss the details surrounding the termination of an employee.”

“The server who was terminated several days after the group dined with us was not let go because she chose to keep the tip money. The other two servers who received generous tips that evening from the Witly organization — including one who also received $2,200 — are still members of our team.”

A GoFundMe page since been set up for Brandt.
