While the price of $4 for a cup of coffee may have come as a shock to Astrid Buffett, it is worth noting that US coffee shops have an average price of $4.90 per cup, as reported by the NPD Group.
Additionally, data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the average cost for a pound of coffee is approximately $6.09.
Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, is known for his frugal lifestyle despite being worth around $115 billion, making him the seventh-richest person globally according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index.
His penchant for frugality is exemplified by anecdotes such as his use of coupons to pay for a McDonald’s meal, as shared by his longtime friend Bill Gates.
In contrast to the lavish residences of many billionaires, Buffett’s home in Omaha has remained relatively modest. He purchased the house in 1958 for approximately $31,500 and has continued to reside there ever since.
Warren Buffett and Astrid have been married since 2006. Astrid, formerly known as Astrid Menks, initially worked as a waitress at the French Cafe in Omaha, where she met Warren Buffett’s first wife, leading to her introduction to the billionaire.
As of now, there has been no official response from a spokesperson for the Buffett family regarding the incident at the Sun Valley event.
