Will Smith reportedly called the Academy bosses to discuss the incident that took place on Sunday evening.
Smith very publicly slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made an insensitive remark about Jada Pinkett Smith, comparing her to G.I Jane.
In the wake of this incident, Smith has since apologized to Rock, the Academy and his fellow nominees.
Smith has also had a call with the Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson where he allegedly apologized to them directly during a Zoom call on 29 March.
During the call, Smith reportedly apologized for slapping Rock and made it clear that he understood his actions would have consequences.
The actor also allegedly tried to justify his reaction by explaining why Rock’s joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head cause such a severe response – Jada has been open about her struggles with hair loss caused by alopecia.
The actor now faces potential suspensions, expulsions or other punishments to be decided on 18 April at the next board meeting, held by the Academy.
This slap is definitely going down in history as one of the craziest things to happen at the Oscars…
