According to The Times, Anastasia Kotvitska, the wife of a prominent Ukrainian politician is alleged to have been caught at a Hungarian refugee border with $29 million in cash, on her person while crossing into the EU.

A case has now been opened into the failure by Kotvitska to declare the removal of the large sum of money from Ukraine.

Her husband, Igor Kotvitska – well known as Ukraine’s wealthiest MP – said his wife was leaving the war-torn country to give birth, but rejected reports that she was carrying $28 million and €1.3 million.

The MP posted the following to Facebook before deleting his account:

All my money is in Ukrainian banks, I did not take anything out.

Very convincing…
