Will Smith may be stripped of his Oscar for violating Academy’s code of conduct after slapping Chris Rock on Sunday’s awards night.
Smith won the Oscar for ‘Best Actor’ after his exceptional performance in King Richard but it may be short lived.
Smith rushed on to the stage after Chris Rock made a comment about Jada Pinkett Smith during his speech and seemingly slapped Rock in the face. Pinkett Smith has recently been open about her struggle with alopecia, a hair loss condition.
In 2017, the Academy issued a set of guidelines aka “Standards of Conduct” that could lead to lose of membership if broken:
“In addition to achieving excellence in the field of motion picture arts and sciences, members must also behave ethically by upholding the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity, inclusion, and a supportive environment that fosters creativity. “
“There is no place in the Academy for people who abuse their status, power or influence in a manner that violates recognized standards of decency. The Academy is categorically opposed to any form of abuse, harassment or discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, age, religion, or nationality. The Board of Governors believes that these standards are essential to the Academy’s mission and reflective of our values.”
The 57-year-old comedian made a G.I Jane reference about Pinkett Smith to which Will Smith reacted by walking onto the stage and slapping Rock in the face. Watch the altercation below:
A Hollywood source told the NY Post that the Academy was not happy…
