In a world where filters and perfect appearances dominate social media, it is refreshing to see someone embrace their natural beauty.
Venus Turner, a nail technician and content creator from Sydney, recently shocked her followers by ditching her usual heavy makeup and showing off her bare face.
The TikTok video, captioned “2 different people”, shows Venus with full glam before revealing her makeup-free face, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Fans commented on how pretty she looked without the thick lashes and heavy makeup, with one admirer even stating that it was the “best decision you’ve ever made.”
While TikTok has been seeing trends of much more minimalistic makeup looks as of late, it seems as if Venus took this lash-less concept to a whole other level.
However, not everyone is willing to embrace their natural beauty to the same extent. In a bizarre beauty hack, TikToker Carrie Madders has been snipping off her bottom lashes with scissors, claiming that it makes her eyes look more “open”.
While some followers were impressed by her bold move, others were mortified by the near-surgical procedure.
One follower pointed out that bottom lashes have a purpose, saying “Girl they’re there to protect your EYEBALLS.” And they’re not wrong – according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, eyelashes prevent irritation and act as human whiskers.
They protect the eye from debris that can obstruct vision or cause infection or injury. So, while it may be tempting to give yourself a DIY lash makeover, it’s probably best to think twice before reaching for the scissors.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that everyone is beautiful in their own unique way, with or without makeup.
As Venus Turner showed us, embracing our natural beauty can be the best decision we ever make. So, whether you’re a makeup fanatic or prefer a more minimalist approach, don’t be afraid to be yourself and let your natural beauty shine through.
