Theresia Fischer, a model hailing from Germany, once embarked on a remarkable journey to transform her appearance by undergoing leg-lengthening surgery, an operation that came at a staggering cost of £130,000. However, in a surprising turn of events, she now deeply regrets the decision that added an astonishing 5.5 inches to her 5 feet 6 inches frame.
The leg-lengthening procedure, although not widely known, involves a rather extreme process. It requires the insertion of metal rods into the shins, effectively extending the length of the legs. Theresia Fischer recently spoke to Bild, sharing insights into the surgery’s intricacies. She explained, “The shin bone is broken cleanly, the calf muscles are split, and a telescopic rod is used in each case. You stretch your lower legs independently by holding your knee with one hand and screwing your foot inward with the other hand until it clicks. Ten clicks a day on each side bring an additional 0.5 millimeters [0.02 inches].”
Despite expressing immense satisfaction with the results at the time of the procedure, the 31-year-old model now openly admits her deep regret. Speaking with radio station MDR Jump, she disclosed that she had originally opted for this extreme transformation to please her then-husband, who had relentlessly urged her to undergo the surgery.
Reflecting on her conversations with her ex-husband, she recounted his insistent demands, saying, “‘Theresia, you know I like big ladies. So I would really like this. You could get up to 14 centimeters more.’ [He would say] ‘You can’t do anything without me. You need me.'”
This relentless pressure took a severe toll on her self-esteem. She shared how being repeatedly told that she was dependent on her husband left her feeling utterly powerless. “And if you are told that 20, 30, 60, 70 times – then you believe that you are nothing without him. I’ve never dealt with that before because I’ve always been happy with my body.”
Now, in hindsight, Fischer openly admits her regret and shame about the decision. She expressed her remorse, saying, “I am ashamed because I consented to an operation that shouldn’t have had.”
This shift in perspective marks a significant change from her earlier sentiments. In 2019, Fischer had publicly expressed her satisfaction with the results and had chosen to undergo the surgery to boost her self-confidence, especially after facing bullying during her teenage years. At that time, she also noted how the surgery had positively impacted her sex life, explaining, “My sex is better now! I have become very flexible with my legs and have more room to maneuver in bed.” However, she acknowledged that her decision had subjected her to online hate, which had deeply hurt her. She concluded, “It hurts me a lot. With the leg-lengthening procedure, I found myself and finally overcame my old trauma from being bullied.”
Theresia Fischer’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the complex and often profound emotional and psychological aspects tied to decisions about body modifications and self-esteem. Her story highlights the importance of making such choices for oneself rather than succumbing to external pressures.
