Donald Trump has settled his defamation lawsuit against ABC News, with the network agreeing to pay $15 million. The case stemmed from a March interview in which anchor George Stephanopoulos incorrectly stated Trump had been found liable for “rape” in a civil case brought by E. Jean Carroll. While Trump was found liable for sexual assault, the claim of rape was not upheld, prompting the former president to file suit.

The settlement terms direct the $15 million to a foundation supporting a future Trump presidential library and museum, consistent with practices of former U.S. presidents. ABC News issued a statement expressing satisfaction with the resolution, noting the agreement included an apology on its website. Additionally, ABC will cover $1 million in legal fees for Trump’s attorneys.

This settlement marks a rare instance of a major media outlet publicly settling a defamation case with a political figure. Trump’s team has yet to comment on the development, but the case underscores the scrutiny media organizations face in high-profile reporting.

The legal victory is likely to bolster Trump’s position amid his broader battles with the media, adding momentum to his claims of being misrepresented in public discourse.
