American Couple At Canadian Restaurant Paid For Everyone’s Meal Because They ‘Hate’ What Trump Is Doing

An American couple made headlines after paying for an entire restaurant’s meals in Canada, saying they “hate what the United States is doing to us.” The gesture took place at Toast on Erie Street in Windsor, Ontario, amid growing tensions over Trump’s newly imposed tariffs.

Trump recently signed an order placing a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports and a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. The White House claims this move is meant to hold these countries “accountable for failing to stop the flood of poisonous drugs into the U.S.” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned that the tariffs will cause economic strain on both countries.

The couple, identified only as Sarah and Bill from Ann Arbor, Michigan, reportedly covered the meals of 50–60 diners. One customer, Aileen Ganley-Mutter, recalled, “We were all kind of shocked because that just doesn’t happen.” Despite offers from patrons to chip in, the couple refused, saying it was “the least we could do.”

Restaurant co-owner May Hermiz described the moment as “stunning,” adding that Sarah specifically said she “hates what the U.S. is doing to us and doesn’t support it.” The couple’s act of kindness was met with cheers and applause from the restaurant’s patrons.
