Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement after a lawsuit accused its Siri voice assistant of eavesdropping on users’ private conversations and sharing them with third parties. Filed five years ago, the lawsuit alleged Siri was triggered unintentionally and captured private discussions without user consent. Examples cited in the case included users seeing targeted ads for products and services they had only mentioned in private conversations. Apple has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle.

The class action covers U.S. users with Siri-enabled devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches purchased between 2014 and 2024. Eligible users could receive up to $20 per device if the settlement is approved by the court. Apple has also committed to deleting any recorded conversations and providing clearer information about how voice data is used.

This settlement follows other tech companies facing privacy lawsuits. In 2023, Amazon paid $30 million to settle similar accusations involving its Alexa assistant and Ring cameras. Google is also under scrutiny for its voice assistant, with a separate case pending in California.

While the $95 million payout is substantial, it represents less than a day of Apple’s profits. The case underscores growing concerns over privacy violations by major tech companies and their accountability to users.
